FFPC Playoff Challenge - Week 1 Recap
Currently sitting 1949 out of 7800 in the FFPC Playoff Challenge. While things did’t go perfectly in the first week it looks like we still have legs to make a run at some good money.
Here is a player by player walk-through of how things went along with player ownership % and outlook.
Josh Allen (49.34%) - Allen came in as the highest-owned QB and for good reason. He had a solid outing vs. the Dolphins in what should’ve been a much better outing. Bottom line is if you picked Allen it was not for the round 1 game but everything to come.
Miles Sanders (3.44%) - This is likely the key to this lineup making serious money and our biggest leverage on the field. Hurt (14.86%), Brown (53.1%), Smith (17.93%) and Goedert (6.54%) have combined 92.43% ownership. If the Eagles are one-and-done its likely it wasn’t on the back of Sanders and probably won’t be great for us as we need to make up much more ground on the field. A 3 game run to the Super Bowl on the back of the running game combined with a big performance for Sanders in the Super Bowl is the path. The thing to watch for with the Hurts teams is that they likely have him paired with Diggs who put up a solid game week 1. Less Diggs is also going to be needed moving forward for the Sanders pick to really pay off.
Ekeler (69.6%) - The second most owned RB. Luckily he put up a solid score in his one and done playoff run. We were anticipating another game for Ekeler but with this build and the Chargers L this played out just fine.
Jefferson (77.18%) - The most owned WR and 2nd most owned player in the tourney, Jefferson did not pull through. Those who faded Jefferson got a big leg up on the field and if they pivoted to Hockenson (13.21%) they were heavily rewarded with his 28+ point performance in the Vikings one-and-done playoff run. While this selection hurts, many felt the pain as well.
Chase (65.77%) - The second most owned WR, Chase delivered. Not many were contrarian enough to pivot to Higgins (9.35%) despite his big Super Bowl performance last year. Mixon (9.76%), who propelled us up the leaderboard last year, also did not catch much ownership and fell flat week 1. Chase the Bengal to have.
Kelce (73.92%) - The 3rd most-owned player in the tourney and to no surprise the most owned TE. With TE premium scoring, outside of a Mahomes build or KC fade this is a free square. Going to need a big game out of Kelce in a one-and-done game vs. the Jags this week given the amount of ground we need to make up. If the Chiefs make a run, we won’t benefit much given the high ownership.
Lamb (58.54%) - The 4th most owned WR, Lamb delivered in a win. The only other real consideration here for us was Pollard (14.1%) who Lamb outperformed. Schultz (5.86%) had a monster game so we are going to need to have Lamb make up some ground on Schultz vs. the 49ers in the Divisional round.
Deebo (3.01%) - This was our best pick as Deebo had a monster game and outscored McCaffrey (77.43%) who is the most owned player in the tournament. Deebo looked just as involved as we had anticipated (if not more so). If CMAC outscores Deebo we will fall in the standings. However, this selection at 3% ownership looks like a true winner.
Kirk (14.2%) - This pick was looking bad early as Lawrence threw 4 picks in the first half vs. the Chargers. As the Jags stormed back, Kirk was able to stuff the stat sheet and turn in a solid performance. With the Jags getting another game (minimum), having a Jag pass-catcher in the lineup in itself is solid leverage on the field. Etienne (32.93%), Engram (10.66%) and Zay Jones (2.66%) all turned in solid performances as well so would be great to see Kirk lead the way in the Divisional round. That being said, very happy to have a Jags position player in the lineup.
Andrews (9.44%) - While Andrews score was solid, it comes in as a massive L based on the alternatives considered for the roster spot. Mainly, Saquon (64.28%) and Metcalf (3.77%) who put up monster 100+ yards and 2TD performances. The teams that have Saquon will also get an additional week out of the roster slot while we will have to make up those points elsewhere in our lineup. Not good.
Myers (8.83%) - Put up 7.6 and lost equates to doing your job at PK in this contest. Myers outscored the chalk kicker, Tucker (42.68%), and kicked and lost unlike the second most owned kicker Gano (14.36%) who is advancing.
TB DEF (17.79%) - The second most owned defense behind the Jags (20.47%) who won, the Bucs defense failed to do anything for us. The real winner this week was the Dolphins DEF (2.76%) which put up 19 points. The most important aspect of picking a defense is having the team lose, which the Bucs did, however more than a single point would’ve been nice.
Full Fade Dolphins (73.6%) - The most popular full fade. This decision panned out as Tyreek (14.78%) didn’t do much. However, the Dolphins DEF performed very well.
Full Fade Giants (8.7%) - This did not work out as Saquon smashed as previously discussed. Full fading the Seahawks (65.4%) and Ravens (26.2%) would’ve been much more desirable. Sometimes the chalk hits.
Paths to serious money -
Sanders puts up RB1 numbers in all games played
Deebo outscores CMAC by a large margin
Kirk leads all Jags position players in scoring in the Divisional Round
Need either the 49ers or Eagles in the Super Bowl with either Deebo or Sanders putting up a monster game
